The Coast Guard is now offering all interested persons with an associate’s degree or better in the culinary field, a $40,000 sign on
bonus and guaranteed Food Service Specialist (FS) technical school. This also guarantees them the pay grade E-4 within their
first year in the Coast Guard combined with rapid potential for advancement in their field.
If you currently do not hold an associate’s degree or better in the culinary arts field, the Coast Guard is offering a $20,000 sign
on bonus as well as guaranteed Food Service Specialist (FS) technical school and guaranteed pay grade E-4 within their first
year of service as well as rapid advancement potential.
All primary and secondary schools in the Food Service Specialist rate are accredited and count for academic credits in the
Coast Guard duty as a Food Service Specialist translates over into the following civilian professions:
• Sous Chef
• Personal Chef
• Pastry Chef
• Chef de Cuisine
• Executive Chef
• Culinary Instructor
• Food Service Manager
• Private Chef
• Restaurant Manager
• Catering Chef
• Finance and Logistics Manager
Along with the culinary specialty; Coast Guard Food Service Specialist also get to partake in the day to day activities of the Coast
Guard, such as maritime drug enforcement, search and rescue, pollution response and prevention and many more Coast Guard
roles and missions.
